The breakup I can deal w/ ; the fact that the other person might (very well) not have been honest w/me .. is mas dificil .. I'm doing a pretty good job of staying busy around the holidays, as far as work is concerned, but every time I see a "crafts fair' (very popular right now, @ this time of year), i remember making faery, mermaid, and other cloth dolls, panting clothing, making brownies, doing portraits .. basically, selling my products ..
Thre was a whole, birthing aspect to it all which is lacking in the "fun jobs" (that modeling, acting, promotions, etc.) basically are to me ...
It's easy to "push the limits" (time, sleep, decadence) when thinking that this ultimately won't be affecting anyone else ..
My idea of decadence involves reading, studying, going to strange (ie, unfamiliar) places, some comfort eating, and occassionally (ocasionally, like as in "almost never") dressing provocatively, though, so it won't be a cause of worry to anybody, anytime soon ..
Plus, Paul was the person who (on any kind of a regular level), actually got me into any kind of a (wine)drinking habit, and so I have another reason not to drink, since I always really respected the idea of being straightedge, anyway. ~~~~~~ Amen. ~~~~~ |

Via Neil Gaiman's blog: http://us.akinator.com/ You think of a person (real or fictional) and it tries to guess their identity. It's scary how quickly it can zero in on the answer. The closest I've come to stumping it was with Eddie Murphy...it guessed "Tracy Morgan" at first, but eventually got it right. |

I got a couple hours of sleep in when Kaija went to the gym, and when she got back we decided to go out to Seattle Center, check out the Winterfest activities. Today was their multi-culti winter holiday show, including the Black Nativity Gospel Choir, an arab winter music program, and the Klez Kids.
The Center is looking ultra depressing these days. You know they're pulling out the Fun Forest to replace it with a huge auditorium in which they can bring in the big bucks shows that, for now, go to White River Ampitheatre and such. It's a great loss to the area.
Anyway, the Gospel Choir is directed by the legendary Patronella Wright; the Rev. Wright was once a soul singer (documented on the "Wheedle's Groove" CD) but got the Lord and became a choir director. She can still sell a song, but a lot of the music just struck me as rote God-shouting. That fellow Sanjay, who was once the brightest star in the firmament, came out and sang a number, and he wasn't so good.
I was having a bit of a depressive episode, so we cut out after their set, watched the ice skaters for a while, then rode the bus home. I promise to keep myself out of the deeps for you. |

| Worse News of the Day |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|06:03 pm] |
DIAMOND has cancelled all orders for Jeremy Bastion's Cursed Pirate Girl #2 and 3.
Here's hoping they get resolicited. They were cancelled and resolicited once already. Issue #1 came out and was probably easily one of the most amazing comics of 2009, bar none. Amazing art, awesome story, great paper, perfectly bound... a serious piece of REAL art for only $5 (or $3.71 with my discount).
This is truly a shame... I need more beauty like THIS...

Truly wanting the rest of the series I have actually written to Bastian himself. |

| Snow, Shrooms and Stones |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|04:03 pm] |
With the snowstorm crashing down and about 3-4 feet of snow in places I decided it was the perfect evening to finally do my batch of mushrooms for my last purchase before the recent spaceship ticket purchase for February. It was also sort of a birthday present to myself. Since my birthday is on Wednesday and I have no Christmas or New Years Eve plans at this time (no big deal... things happen, they don't happen... whatevers).
So here is what I was writing out while in the plane, with some editing.
The sky was gray and red, that was not as exciting as the darkness. Letters were in 3D, all colors were more vibrant! The amazement, the sensation... to have my eyes see things so "off skew" or more so the way they really are is awesome.
The coolest visuals I had was the astrological chart on different colored runes spinning in an oval like shape with rainbow spectral trails running with in a diagram of zig-zag patterns in front of it. Then a chasm of color opened up on top of it and swallowed it whole and then spit it back out but coming towards me and then around me and back in to the chasm. I wish I had the artistic skills to actually draw this one. Not even one of my methoxy photo paintings can recreate this visual. It would need full blown animation.
At around 2:30 AM, the dog begged to go out for a walk. Still tripping out of my mind, I bundled up... and I'm talking I was completely undressed and he's crying. Totally like begging me, he was actually "hitting" me with his head and paws on the knees and ankles, completely messing my vibe. So I'm telling him "fine, fine, but shut up please"... so I'm throwing on pants, and a sweater and my jacket and sliding into my big Frankenstein boots and I took him. It was... different.
The biggest hill of snow naturally formed was about 3, maybe 4 feet. I didn't walk there... luckily where snow could be super intense at the front of my building, where there are three stairs into sort of a basement like entrance wasn't too bad. I mean, the snow was spilling under the glass door and into the building and the stairs were more like snow hills and hard to judge, but I made it. Actually slipped a little on the way back in. I took a shot of Domino in his coat, I couldn't resist.

| The Gnuppets Take Manhatten |
[Dec. 20th, 2009|04:11 am] |
Yes, I'm up at four AM. I've been up for two hours.
I woke up from a dead sleep, weird dreams. We were trying to get out of somewhere, in a car -- couldn't move because there were blocks under the wheels. So we had to stay, and since we had to stay I went ahead and designed the cover for the next album by a band I was producing -- I'd turned into this Ahmet Ertegun figure -- they were a bunch of volatile English kids like Oasis, and when they came in they WEREN'T happy to see I'd done their artwork for them, but I reminded them that they had six hours till deadline if they wanted to come up with their own design. Just as we were rolling up our sleeves to chart it out, something woke me. The cat, maybe.
She's been bothering around for the last two hours, but I'm not going to feed her until five. In the interim I've phoned in my UI claim and finished the new Lethem novel .. his tribute to Phil Dick, a pretty good book, sort of an amalgam of "Radio Free Albemuth" and "Slaves of New York" ..
Now I'm online, and when done here, if the paper isn't in, I might read another of my library finds. There's the second POPEYE collection, a book of actor's interviews, and "French Milk" -- that contentious volume. Actually, I don't know if I can finish this. |

I had to recuse myself from a job offer, which makes me feel a bit sick. Had to do it, though. For one thing, the plant is out in Edmonds, which is so far North that Google Maps doesn't even give you an idea of which bus you can take there ... and they sent a test in Illustrator which baffled me -- even with years of prepress, in which I used Illustrator on a daily basis, and after taking a class last term on Illustrator usage, I still couldn't figure out what they wanted. (Maybe the instructions were vague? Yet somebody will figure it out.) So I sent an email bowing out. |

| New Stuff in 2010 I want see/play/read |
[Dec. 18th, 2009|06:05 pm] |
I thought for fun I'd list the NEW games I want to play, NEW comics I look forward to and NEW movies and TV shows I want to see in 2010.
GAMES(Let's believe I will somehow also get my hands on a PS3 on top of my WII for this one.) No More Heroes 2-Desperate Struggle: The sequel to the amazing Suda 51 instant classic. Heavy Rain: Quantic Dream finally follows up the genius of Indigo Prophecy with a new choose your own adventure. Red Steel 2: Nothing to do with original, but still cool looking. Bayonetta: Hardcore shoot up action. Mafia II: After years of GTA, The Godfather and others... one of the original sandbox games returns with more crime syndicate fun. Dante's Inferno: From the folks who made Dead Space, a fantasy shooter based on the Alligheri epic poem. White Knight Chronicles: Any Level-5 JRPG is a must for me! Sin and Punishment 2: Rail shooter of pure excellence. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4: I absolutely love how much is being put into this, focusing on the the books and movies and full characterization. Resonance of Fate JRPG from the makers of Star Ocean and Radiata Stories. Final Fantasy XIII : Nuff said. Yakuza 3: Nuff said. Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon : A role playing adventure horror hard to define type game from the makers of Eternal Sonata. God of War III: More slash! Dead to Rights: Retribution: The coolest dog and cop team returns! Red Dead Redemption: One of the greatest westerns ever gets a sequel. Iron Man 2: Ion Blasters and Robots! Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands: I don't think a single game like this hasn't ruled. EA Sports MMA: I'm really hoping Urijah Faber is in this, just so I can control him. Max Payne 3: It's a shame that Remedy didn't develop this or that Sam Lake didn't write it, but the team that developed Bully did, and I trust them to take the franchise to the next level, even if its not what Lake would envision. The Last Guardian: From the makers of Iko and Shadow of the Colossus, another frustrating, beautiful huge epic. True Crime : Relaunching the series from a new developer with a story of going undercover in The Triad.
TV (I'm only listing BRAND NEW shows here, so while there's actually already announced seasons for shows coming in "mid-season" or in the case of Cable, where they have their own set seasons, I'm not mentioning the shows) I'm in the Band (Disney XD): Teen sitcom where a kid ends up becoming the member of a hot 80's band trying to make a comeback after falling on poor luck. Kick Buttowski (Disney XD): The youngest stunt man ever. Game of Thrones (HBO): Based on the work of George R.R. Martin. Boardwalk Empire (HBO): Based on a book about Atlantic City during Prohibition, starring Steve Buscemi. Archer (FX): A new cartoon from the creator of Frisky Dingo starring H. John Benjamin 18 to Life ( CBC, Might have to find it online though if America doesn't get it...): Stacey Farber of Degrassi:TNG and Michael Seater of Life with Derek play a couple who get married at 18 and try to bring their feuding families together. Frankenhole (Adult Swim): A new stop motion show from the creator of Moral Orel. Planet Sheen (Nickelodeon): A spin-off of Jimmy Neutron. Ben 10: Evolution (CN) The Ben 10 saga continues. Regular Show (CN): Craziness animation from the Cartoonstitute project. Adventure Time with Finn and Jake (CN): If you've never seen the Adventure Time short do so.
MOVIES Robin Hood: Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe, Myth and Reality, Arrows... yes. Iron Man 2: Still not sold on Whiplash, but still wanna see it. Youth In Revolt: Michael Cera is really evolving and if the extra twist in the book is in this movie, it'll rule! Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time: This looks good despite the casting. Salt: Angelina Jolie looking sexy and kicking ass, what more do you need? How To Train Your Dragon: This just looks so fun... and it's 3D! Kick Ass: Mark Millar's comic ruled and he's been hands on here, so I expect amazing things, even though they'll be no surprises plot wise for me. Greenberg: Ben Stiller is hit or miss, but Noah Baumbach is always awesome. Hot Tub Time Machine: At first I was really iffy on this, but now that a real trailer exists, the utter inanity works. Brooklyn's Finest: I so hope Antoine Fuqua finally recaptured the magic of Training Day. The Book of Eli: Make From Hell, disappear for 9 years, come back with a Post-Apocalytpic starring Fishburne? Hell yes. Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore: Cats & Dogs was so much better than it had any right o, and this sequel looks just as good. Mother's Day: I've mentioned this remake before and still wanna see it. A Nightmare on Elm Street: Yes! 2001 Maniacs sequel: Same team as the first one so... Daybreakers: Now this a vampire flick I can get into. Edge of Darkness: I discussed this return of Mel Gibson before as well. Shutter Island: Denis Lehane and Marty Scorscese, match made in heaven or hell... Season of the Witch: Medieval supernatural looks fun. I Love You Phillip Morris: With the stupidity that is A Christmas Carol, this films existence is the only thing that lets me see Jim Carrey as still a good commodity. Wall Street 2: Gordo Gecko bitches! Jonah Hex: Have you see what Josh Brolin looks like as Jonah? It's amazing... The Expendables: The movie starring everyone! Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwartznegger, Bruce Willis, Eric Roberts, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and even MMA Fighters Randy "The Natural" Couture and "Big Nog" and "Little Nog". For the female sex appeal it even has Lauren Jones, Charisma Carpenter, and Giselle ItiƩ.
NEW Comics, Graphic Novels, Mini-Series (This is harder to do as comics really can't be advanced on beyond 2 months, so here's Jan and Feb and just a few that have been advanced named in articles) The Guild: A comic based on the webseries written by Felicia Day herself with art by Jim Rugg. Ben 10: Doom Dimension by Peter David and Dan Hipp: Not exactly names I would connect with Ben10, but very welcome to the concept. Can't wait to see what they came up with. King City (new pages with issue #7): Since Issue 7 would be a Vol.2 and is essentially a #1 for Image, I can't help but mention this great Brandon Graham book. Joe The Barbarian: Grant Morrison sounds like he's exploring and expanding on ideas he developed in his Flex Mentallo comic with this and with Sean Murphy on art, should be awesome. Breaking Into Comics the Marvel Way: I love this idea of a way to introduce the next slew of artists that Marvel will be using a lot. The Return of Bruce Wayne: Chris Sprouse and Frazier Irving have already been announced for this, so I'm sold. Batman: Earth One: Geoff Johns and Gary Frank on a Batman not embroiled in continuity? Nice... X-Factor- Forever: The interview I read with Louise Simonson really made this sound great. Atom & Hawkman #46: While a spin-off issue from Blackest Night, it's also Ryan Sook interiors, which are rare. Night Owls Vol. 1: I've been a fan of the Timony Bros. for about two-three years now, so glad to see them blowing up. Simpsons Comics #163: (Sergio Aragones takes over, it may as well be a #1) The Legendary Talespinners: I love me Grant Bond SMILE by goraina: Obviously if I have as an LJ friend I'm a fan, even though I think of her as a friend too... and so should you be, a fan that is. Ghostbusters Holiday Special:Tainted Love with art by salgoodsam: Usually I actually avoid these Ghostbusters comics, but with art by Max Douglas, I can't resist. Sam Kieth: The Sketchbooks: Sam Kieth pure art? YES! |
